Edinburgh’s 5 Star, award-winning Visitor Attraction The Scotch Whisky Experience is to become an Edinburgh Festival Fringe venue for the first time this year.

The 2012 Edinburgh Festival Fringe runs from 3-27 August 2012 and the Scotch Whisky Experience is hosting a number of whisky tasting events throughout the month.

The Castlehill venue at the top of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile is offering a range of themed whisky tasting events, hosted by experts from a variety of Scottish distillers, with the first session from distillers John Dewar & Sons kicking off with the “An Afternoon of Aberfeldy” on Friday 3rd August. Other expert-hosted tastings include selected whiskies from Bowmore, Tomatin, Jura, Tomintoul and Old Pulteney as well as a session on Whisky Liqueurs.

Visitors can also enjoy longer “Enthusiasm For Scotch” afternoon sessions, offering an afternoon of Scotch Whisky appreciation. This session includes a guided tour of the Scotch Whisky Experience, a visit to the world’s largest collection of Scotch Whisky, delicious Scottish Tapas from the award-winning Amber restaurant, an aroma quiz and blind tasting and culminates in a tutored tasting of 4 single malt Scotch Whiskies from across Scotland.

There are also various Whisky shop samplings available throughout the month of August, in the interactive and recently refurbished Scotch Whisky Experience shop, which offers customers the opportunity to interact with technology and learn about Whisky in over 20 languages and lets them choose their own unique “Pick & Mix” Whisky tasting packs to buy (customers can then download the Whisky tasting notes online).

All events are ticketed, with The Whisky Tasting events priced at £15.00 per person, and the Enthusiasm For Scotch events priced at £50 per person.

Events can be booked online via the Scotch Whisky Experience website, by phone on 0131 220 0441 (during office hours Mon-Fri  9am – 5pm) or through the Fringe.
